Nuno Nogueira’s PhD research project “Artistic Explorations in Pattern Design: The Imprint of the Skin on a Two-dimensional Surface as a Process to Map a Body,” in progress since 2016 (FCT/CIAUD), is included in the line of research Drawing the Body & Inhabiting the Drawing. Informed by the works of artists who use(d) the whole body as an implement for drawing the body , as well as the concept of metonymy in action-art — put forward by the art historian Kristine Stiles —, the project involves using a body and a textile in contiguity to collect visual data for mapping the body surface.
