‘A Guide for Fashion Educators’ (formerly titled ‘A Guide for Fashion Designers’), being developed since 2016, is included in the line of research New Patterns for Fashion Education. This project was originally meant to offer fashion students a comprehensive perspective on all issues implicated in Fashion Design but as the research expanded we identified some fragilities in terms of what and how Fashion is (still) being taught since the 1980s, to which we opted to shift its focus to the role and challenges that fashion educators face regarding the new (current) generations of students. The several research papers on alternative approaches to teaching/learning fashion design – including drawing, textiles, pattern design, prototyping, etc. – that we submitted to international conferences encouraged us to edit a book addressing the present circumstances and proposing updated solutions, in addition to creating a forum and an international network.
